Don Carlson’s School of Evangelism

Don Carlson a great friend and mentorPrologue

Prayer is the most important activity in our lives. Communing with God should take priority over EVERYTHING else. We should do what we can to be in constant contact with our creator. Maybe meditating 24/7 on God is not feasible, but being God-conscious every waking moment, and throughout our entire lives, is possible. This is how Don lived.

In Mark 12:30 Jesus says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” The way we conduct ourselves, the things we say, and the decisions we make all reflect how centered we are on God. And, by being so focused on God we allow Him who began a good work in us to perfect us until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6)

Even with a large part of out attention on God we may find times when we are self-conscious and timid, especially with regards to evangelising. Paul’s courage and boldness came from his faith in the hope of the Gospel. We too will one day have this same faith and courage as we pursue our knowledge and understanding of scripture. Be assured of that.

21 Once [we] were alienated from God and were enemies in [our] minds because of [our] evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled [us] by Christ’s physical body through death to present [us] holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation– 23 if [we] continue in [our] faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel.
— Colossians 1:21-23

So what do we do until we have as much faith as Paul? Should we go into incubation and wait for this new birth? Or, are we going to make a decision to overcome our barriers to carry out Jesus’ Great Commission?

What is Don Carlson’s School of Evangelism?

Don Carlson a great friend and mentorDon Carlson’s School of Evangelism is a helpful guide on how to become active now in witnessing and evangelism. The name of this course is somewhat of an inside joke I have with myself and my dear friend Don Carlson and those people who know him. In time, a very short amount of time, Don became my mentor in evangelism. Basically, by having lunch and breakfast with Don I found myself in many situations that Don, who was in his 90’s, would put me in. I always had a chance to say “no”, but it was a blessing that I never did. Please read “Don Carlson, a True Evangelist, a Man of God, and My Friend and Teacher” for more Don and the great man he was.

Don CarlsonThis course focuses on helping those who are more reserved and shy, and find it hard enough to meet people let alone share the Good News. Regardless of where you are in your walk with Christ, this course is designed to help you start your life as an evangelist and witness right now. There are some foundational habits we all need to grow in our faith that will eventually create in us the boldness we all seek, so we will explore that.

As well, the course contains exercises that will help you start breaking down barriers today regardless of your knowledge of the Bible, your relationship with Christ, whether you have been water baptized or baptized in the Spirit or never baptized at all, whether you talk in tongues and pray quietly by yourself, or how mature you are spiritually. This course cuts to the heart of the matter – your fear, and what you physically must do to overcome it.
